A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming

By: Dylan Tuccillo, Jared Zeizel, Thomas Peisel

a field guide to lucid dreaming.jpg

This is my recommendation for anyone who is approaching the concept of lucid dreaming for the first time. This book is very complete, straightforward, and quite enjoyable to read. Another feature any beginner will appreciate about A Field Guide to Lucid Dreaming is the fact that it is very practical, so you can start working towards lucidity from day one.

Dream Yoga

by Andrew Holecek

dream yoga.jpg

Do not get fooled by the name: Dream Yoga has little to do with Lulu Lemon pants and a lot to do with stretching your mind. With decades of experience, Holecek really excels at introducing the spiritual practice of lucid dreaming in terms that are graspable and applicable to the average western person.

Although there is a book with the same name, I encourage you to download this audio program from Sounds True as it is the closest you can get from attending a class with the author without paying the cost of enrolling in a course or going on a retreat.

Dream Yoga is divided into practical, easy to follow lessons that begin with the basics of lucid dreaming, but evolve into the spiritual practices from the Tibetan tradition. In his narration, Holecek strikes me as friendly and approachable, and that is perhaps why I recommend Dream Yoga as one of my top resources.

Dream Gates

by Robert Moss

dream gates.webp

Robert Moss is one of the most prolific authors in the field of dreams with over a dozen books dedicated to this topic. Furthermore, despite his more than sixty years of experience as a lucid dreamer, he is still very active in producing new material and sharing his knowledge on social media.

Even though all of his books are a worthwhile read, I recommend this audio program from Sounds True as it offers some exciting features that unfortunately cannot be captured in a paperback. What impressed me the most about this resource are the shamanic journeys led by Moss himself; also, Moss is a master storyteller who can easily engage you with his anecdotes and creative ways to extrapolate your dreaming practice way beyond reality checks and dream journals.

The Wild Unknown - Archetypes

by Kim Krans

archetypes.jpg

This has become one of my favorite resources to reflect on the symbolic content of dreams and learn about archetypes. Decks are mysterious and attractive in themselves, but they also promote deeper mind-body connections; as you shuffle and hold the cards, you are engaging in a tactile form of learning that allows for stronger, more complex neuronal networks to be established.

The Wild Unknown Archetypes deck caught my attention from the very beginning as it is not your average set of oracle cards. Kim Krans went through a process of thorough research and deep personal transformation to create this work of art... and it shows. Not only the illustrations are unique and provocative; the content of the guidebook provides a solid framework to start working with archetypes without being dense or too esoteric.

You can use this deck alongside your dream journal to reflect on the deeper meaning of your dreams or start building your personal dream dictionary; you can also pick a random card and use it to meditate on it or to incubate a specific dream.

Awakening to the Spirit World

by Sandra Ingerman and Hank Wesselman

awakening to the spirit world.jpg

Shamanism offers the first and most primordial framework for working with dreams, and no one explains it like Sandra Ingerman and the group of practitioners that she gathered to put together this book. Whether you believe in a spiritual reality or not, this book provides an excellent approximation to shamanism in the contemporary world and some of its applications for healing and personal growth.

One of the features that make this book stand out is that it does not focus on a single version of shamanism, but presents it from the perspective of a variety of cultures from around the world.

Just like the other resources in this list, this book offers a clear theoretical background and a number of applications that you can easily incorporate into your own unique practice.

The Wisdom of Your Cells

by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D

the wisdom of your cells.jpg

You may think this is an unusual choice for a dream library but trust when I tell you that it is a gamechanger when it comes to truly understanding how your subconscious mind works.

The first time I heard about Bruce Lipton was in an online event hosted by The Shift Network, and as soon as he was done with his intervention, I jumped online to investigate further.

What I love about Bruce Lipton is his ability to find magic in science and communicate it with the passion and eloquence of a father talking about a beloved child. I enjoyed every second of this audio program by Sounds True as it leads you smoothly through an exploration of how your thoughts, beliefs, and childhood trauma affect the way your body operates at a molecular level.

The best part? You do not need to be a biologist or biochemist to take advantage of this revolutionary approach now known as epigenetics.
